Misconceptions to diagnose

ALG.VAR.AS_LABEL

Reads the a in 3a as "apples" rather than a number of apples.

Repair: Insist on "a stands for the number of ..." in every definition.

ALG.VAR.FIXED_VALUE

Believes a letter always stands for one particular number.

Repair: Evaluate the same expression for several values.
